Detailed Objective: This project examines food insecurity in the immigrant population and the effects of socioeconomic characteristics, networks in ethnic enclaves, Food Stamp Program (FSP) participation, and welfare reform on differences in food insecurity between immigrant and other households. The project will systematically examine the extent and determinants of food security in the immigrant population and examine why the food insecurity of immigrant and native households differ. Using data from the Current Population Survey, the USDA Food Security Supplement, and Census files, the research will investigate the role played by differences in socioeconomic characteristics, the impact of networks in ethnic enclaves, the differential rates of participation in the FSP, and the impact of welfare reform legislation
