| Detailed Objective: This project will utilize a conventional economic framework of consumer theory to quantify and evaluate the effects of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation on health outcomes by socioeconomic groups of households. The project will then combine the estimated economic model of behavior with a model of the physiological mechanism underlying weight gain to test the hypothesis SNAP participants are more obese than low-income nonparticipants. By combining the behavioral model with the physiologic model into a unified framework, the project will provide new insights into the relationship of the SNAP program and obesity. |
