| Detailed Objective: This study will estimate trends in the number of immigrant mothers and children eligible for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the National School Lunch Program. The trends will be analyzed separately for legal and unauthorized mothers and children. The study will also assess how much these trends are driven by immigration, economic changes, State-specific factors, and other factors. The study will use Current Population Survey data from the late 1990s through 2006, augmented by the Urban Institute's Transfer Income Model (TRIM3)-a model that allows researchers to differentiate legal from unauthorized immigrants and to correct for survey underreporting and misreporting of program participation. |
