Detailed Objective: This conference brought together experts from government, universities, research
institutes, and public interest groups that have an interest in food security
measurement. The focus was to provide direction for future research needs and
data collection, including the potential for measurement of individual food security;
and to foster interaction among public and private researchers in the involvement,
refinement, validation, and use of the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Department
of Health and Human Services food security measurement scale. The conference is
part of a continuing, collaborative effort of several federal agencies in the
U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
to advance research understanding in this area. A fixed-price contract was awarded
to IQ Solutions, Inc., at a cost of $100,000. The conference was held in February
1999. |
